Niharika Bhullar is a professional freelance makeup artist based out of New Delhi. She has been in this industry for 4 years now and her expertise lies in bridal, fashion and party makeups. She has also done a season at Amazon Fashion week 2018. We spoke to Niharika about makeups and brides lately. Take a look at what she says.
1. How did you start your career in this industry? What inspired you to take Makeup as your profession?
Niharika: I took Makeup as a challenge. I didn’t even know the ‘M’ of Makeup a few years earlier. I always heard people say that I was probably the only girl who didn’t know how to wear makeup and so I decided to prove them wrong. I am actually a self-taught Makeup artist and I started my career as a freelancer while I was still in university. After university, I took up a job with a reputed salon company in Delhi. After gaining enough experience in this field, I decided to venture into my business full time.
2. What is that one thing that you would suggest to every bride to be for her D-day?
Niharika: The one most important thing I would like to suggest all brides for their wedding day is to hydrate their skin a lot. Make sure you drink lots of water a day prior and moisturize your skin well before your artist starts applying products on your skin. And it goes without saying, ‘A happy woman makes a beautiful bride’. So, just relax and enjoy this day because it’s not going to come back.
3. What is the basic skin care routine a bride to be should adopt?
Niharika: Every bride-to-be should strictly follow this night skincare regime a couple months before their wedding day. First, you must make sure you cleanse your face every night followed by a gentle face wash. Post that uses a hydrating moisturizer followed by penetrating an Elixir serum- Rose gold elixir by Farsali or Tea tree oil by Body Shop. But the most important thing is to drink at least 3 liters of water every day because, in order to keep your skin hydrated, you must keep your body hydrated.
4. What are the things that a bride to be should keep in mind before finalizing a Makeup artist?
Niharika: This is an answer all brides-to-be must focus on because every girl’s dream is to look perfect for her wedding day. Make sure that the foundation is not making you look darker or lighter than your actual skin tone because this will cause your skin to look pulled down and grey, respectively. Also, make sure your skin doesn’t look cakey or it won’t look good in pictures. Always prefer to go in for HD makeup if you have too many blemishes instead of Airbrush makeup because in Airbrush we need to build a lot of layers to build coverage and that tends to make your makeup cakey and heavy if you have too many blemishes.
